Microsoft researchers to invest $6M in academic partnership

Microsoft Research will invest more than $6 million in academic collaboration. This hefty budget is for research grants to the university set. It has specifically said it will fund projects in the following areas: Cell phones for healthcare services in rural areas; biomedical computing for the genome project, particularly projects that help with data usage and analysis; intelligent Web 3.0 – sometimes called the semantic Web – projects that develop context-aware models of information access; multi-core computing, particularly projects that show how operating systems can scale; Sustainable and energy efficient computing; and the most fun area of all – human-robot interaction.

Health care eyes Web 3.0

Forget wikis and blogs — are you ready for the Semantic Web? If you are still trying to understand the world of blogs and wikis — so-called Web 2.0 — you might not feel ready to take on the next iteration of the Web. It’s Web 3.0 — otherwise known as the Semantic Web — and it could ultimately have the biggest impact on health care.

Astoria and the Semantic Web

Tools like Astoria are a fantastic tool by which we can expose data in a way that jibes with the vision of the semantic web. In case you have been living under a rock, or you really don't care about Microsoft's "data in the cloud" strategies, Pablo Castro is the technical lead responsible for such gems as the ADO.NET Entity Framework and Astoria. Astoria is a project that wraps up an Entity Data Model in a WCF service with a uniform URI query format that allows for RESTful access to relational data via XML, RDF, or JSON.

Semantic Building: Starting a Revolution

The Semantic Web has been discussed and debated by academics for years, and really, we are not getting anywhere fast. This post will discuss how to start building semantics into your website from the ground up. While doing this won't create the create the great Semantic Web straight away, it will provide an underground layer of accessible data which applications can start processing and using.

Semantische Technologien in den Life Sciences
