Changes in the SCOT ontology model

The objective of the SCOT ontology is to semantically represent the structure and semantics of a collection of tags and to represent social networks among users based on tags. As such, SCOT represents social features of people engaging in tagging activities and also draws on other relevant vocabularies, i.e. FOAF, SIOC and SKOS. The image above shows a simplified, general model of the SCOT ontology.

The new SCOT model was announced on the 26th of June on the SCOT blog. New features include the scot:taggingActivity property to describe and contain tagging activities in the tag cloud, and the property scot:taggingAccount to describe online accounts for individual users. The illustration below highlights the changes which concern in particular the class tags:tagging.

In addition, many property names have changed. For instance, the property scot:totalCooccurTags has changed to scot:totalCooccurringTags. The new specification is currently under development and said to be released as soon as possible.
